Works made for the exhibition Diana Forever, commemorating the death of Princess Diana in 1997, twenty years earlier. The work explores how myths come to be, and the relationship between the Roman goddess Diana, Diana Princess of Whales, and the narrators of their stories.

Díana að eilífu / Diana Forever

Diana Forever was an art exhibition held in November of 2017, in various galleries in Reykjavík, including Ekkisens, Portið and Mengi. Fourteen artists contributed original works on the exhibition’s subject: Princess Diana.

In August of 2017, twenty years had passed since Princess Diana lost her life. Her name never quite disappeared from our daily life, from the newspapers, and during this strange anniversary year we found her everywhere. Statues of her were erected, charities made donations in her name, people layed flowers out on the pavement once again. It seems this phenomenon is not confined within the person that she was, but the goddess that was created once the outside world enveloped her.

She lives on as a memory, a myth, an idea.

The photographs displayed were taken during the exhibition and performance night, and portray works by the contributing artists.
